NEW PATENTED DEVICE ASSURES VERY EFFECTIVE DUST PROTECTION FOR LASER
DIAMETER GAUGES.
It is a well known fact
that the major obstacle in expanding on-line diameter measurement practice in the Wire
Industry is the dust sensitivity of all optical instruments, which jeopardises
applications on dry drawing benches, where soap and iron dust can strongly affect the
measuring accuracy and blind the sensor in a short time.
Aeroel has now developed and tested a brand new pneumatic protection
against dust, to be used with their dual axis Laser Gauges.
Based on a self-cleaning concept, this new pneumatic protection system has
been designed to fit the gauge onto dry drawing machines, where the soap dust is a serious
problem for every optical instrument. Extensive on-field tests have proven that, using
this new bracket, more than 30 days of uninterrupted operation can be expected,
without any need for gauge cleaning, even on most critical situations, where previous
systems would have last few hours only.
Besides preventing the gauge contamination, this new type of protection has granted
several remarkable advantages:
- it prevents possible gauge damage in case
of wire breaking;
- the gauge can be simply cleaned or
serviced by slipping it out from the bracket, without being obliged to stop the machine
and cut or remove the wire;
- no expensive and clean compressed air is
needed: a simple centrifugal blower supplies the bracket, sucking the air from the
ambient;
- a cheap paper filter provides effective
filtering from dust.
The new patented devices
can also be retrofit to existing gauges, to improve performance and on-line reliability by
greatly reducing service requirement.

supplier of on-line diameter control systems to the Wire Industry.
