LASER TECHNOLOGY
IN THE WIRE INDUSTRY
The on-line diameter measurement is performing a very important role even in the manufacturing process of a product seemingly so simple as metal wire, especially because nowadays specifications are getting tighter and tighter and more and more difficult to achieve. Aeroel has developed dedicated laser systems for real time diameter and ovality measurement, offering to wire drawers effective instruments to enhance the process efficiency and the wire quality.
Why Lasers?
Laser technology allows the wire to be gauged just after the die or before the coiling, during the drawing process. Indeed, only by using laser light it has become possible to design diameter gauges which are insensitive to wire vibration and movement, featuring in addition the extremely high precision which is necessary to check very narrow tolerance limits.
|
The ApplicationsBy detecting increasing wire diameter or excessive ovality, the laser gauge constantly monitors the wearing condition of the die. When the wire diameter exceeds the preset tolerance limits, the machine can be immediately stopped. The measured data is recorded and processed to print complete statistical reports for each spool. In addition, the gauges can be linked to an external computer to allow remote system programming and data downloading for further analisys and storage. Several system configurations are offered, to fit both wet or dry drawing machines, single or multiple line, processing ferrous or non-ferrous wire. |
The benefits
Due to the 100% inspection it is possible to achieve zero-defect production and to certify the wire quality. By avoiding drawing out-of-spec wire and by optimizing the utilization cycle of the dies, significant savings in material costs can be obtained. Finally the on-line monitoring results in saving labour costs and improving the automation of the drawing process.
Why Aeroel?
Having been established in the Wire Industry for a long time, Aeroel has extensive experience and specific know-how and is now in the position of offering a wide range of gauging systems. All of which are effective on both wet or dry drawing machines and for a number of different types of wire. In each case the favourable cost/benefits ratio always guarantees a quick investment pay back.
The unrivalled excellence of the gauges, all of them with crossed laser beams, and their long operational life enhance the benefits and make them last for the years to come.
The Aeroel measuring systems are available with accessories to guarantee suitable shielding and dust resistance; all of which have been proved to be ideally suited for on-line operation, often in heavy duty environments, succeeding where other equipment has failed.

LASER TECHNOLOGY IN THE
MECHANICAL INDUSTRY
The most advanced machine tools require sophisticated feedback systems to obtain a constant processing accuracy which is a mandatory parameter for quality. Within this framework, the diameter measuring laser gauges have proven to be a necessity and a technologically qualifying component to boost the efficiency of most competitive NC lathes and centreless grinding machines.
Why Lasers?
The non-contact measuring technique, featuring remarkable flexibility and high gauging speed, has allowed industry to overcome the limitations dictated by touch-probes, which basically need to stop the part to perform the gauging. The use of laser light has made it possible to achieve the high level of accuracy which is today required to check tolerance ranges which are becoming tighter all the time.
|
The ApplicationsLaser gauges not only permit delicate off-line inspection to become simpler and faster, but they also enable on-line applications which are unthinkable with traditional contact systems. For example, multi-diameter through-feed measurement of ground parts or the on-line gauging of steel bars, providing real time and automatic machine control to recover the wearing of working tools. |
The Benefits
Production that is free of scrap which results in outstanding savings in wasted material and skilled labour, is assured through 100% on-line inspection, immediate and automatic machine adjustment and the sorting of out-of tolerance parts. The results of the measurements are recorded by the system and can be easily down-loaded to external computers, which upon analysis can prove the product quality and the process capability.
Why Aeroel?
Featuring superior accuracy unaffected by ambient temperature change, excellent flexibility, high measuring speed, long life and reliable operation, the Aeroel Laser Gauges can fulfill the most demanding on-line tasks. In addition, thanks to their unmatched experience in applying laser technology to machine tools, Aeroel doesn’t just offer gauges but supplies complete measuring systems, thus assuring effective solutions to a number of diameter control problems on lathes or on centreless grinders. Adaptable softwares to process and filter the measurement data make the system ideally suited to the measurement of components with varied shapes and sizes. A wide range of accessories provides suitable cleaning of parts and their transportation through the laser beam.

Laser Measurement: the ideal solution in many industries
Aeroel design and manufacture high accuracy Laser Micrometers and Laser Gauges for non-contact diameter measurement and control.
Due to their non contact measurement capability, Aeroel Lasers can be applied in a fast, precise, and efficient manner to a variety of industrial processes. From wire drawing to mechanical component grinding, the laser optic technology assures consistent, objective and accurate results over traditional techniques.
The use of laser light has made it possible to develop instruments for high precision measurements in the factory, on-line and on the bench. Innovative technical solutions, secured by patents, have enabled us to make gauges which are insensitive to variations in temperature, vibration, product movement, dust and other environmental conditions which would normally influence the measurement results in the production environment.

MECHANICAL INDUSTRY MAGNET WIRE INDUSTRY |
LASER TECHNOLOGY IN PLASTIC EXTRUSION
The on-line diameter control is regarded today as a necessity to get a satisfactory efficiency in the extrusion process. Likewise it is a must to guarantee the quality standard which is needed in an increasingly competitive market. The Aeroel laser scanners, thanks to a perfect balance between ease of use and comprehensive functions, have proved to be very effective and suitable for extrusion automation.
Why Laser?
Just after the extruder head the product is still soft, can be easily deformed and in addition is moving
at a speed that can attain remarkable values: in such conditions only instruments based on optical principles are able to check the dimensions without any risk of errors or damages due to the contact.
Using laser light, it has been possible to achieve reliable and accurate gauging, not affected by product movement and vibration.
|
The ApplicationsThe laser gauge measures the outside diameter of tubes, rods and cables or the dimensions of profiles featuring rectangular section, no matter whether the material is tranparent or not. It checks the tolerances and alerts the operator when the product is going out of specification; in addition, when connected to the machine, it performs automatic extruder regulation, to keep the product within pre set tolerance limits. |
The Benefits
Thanks to the automatic and unsupervised extrusion control, it has been possible to achieve remarkable savings in labour and materials, paying back the system cost in a few months.
The on-line monitoring enables 100% inspection and makes it possible to sell flaw-free products, with assessed quality.
Why Aeroel?
The Aeroel laser systems have been developed to provide instruments that are simple to set up, easy to use, at a competitive cost, long lasting and, what’s most important, perfectly suitable to perform their fundamental task: to make extrusion people save time and money.
Advanced technology has granted simple and effective operation, dual axis gauges have expanded measuring capability to products having oval or rectangular cross-section. Sophisticated signal processing softwares allow reliable and accurate gauging of transparent products and cancel any error due to product vibration or movement.
Being one of the few European Companies working in this area, Aeroel ensures qualified technical service and products which comply with the high quality and safety standards set by the European Union.
